Ink on paper

During the strict period of China's Covid-zero policy, when the closure of borders made foreigners a rarity in the country, I was constantly approached by people taking photos without permission. In response, I began photographing these people, creating a form of reappropriation of my own image. This series consists of 24 ink paintings, inspired by the 24 frames per second of cinema, using repetition through this traditional Chinese technique. The work questions who holds control over a face, with each stroke repeating the same stolen photo, captured by a stranger on the streets, and thus returning the gesture of appropriation.
